NBN Co has announced another 46,600 premises on the Sunshine Coast are set to receive the National Broadband Network (NBN) under its new national rollout plan.

The construction work scheduled from December 2014 includes Beerwah (surrounds), Maleny (surrounds), Nambour, Pomona (surrounds), Maroochydore and Wurtulla.

The plan reflects the company's new, flexible multi-technology approach and provides an indication of scheduled construction work up to June 2016. This approach means that for most households and businesses:

  • If already served by the Optus or Telstra Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) cable networks - these areas will likely receive fast broadband over an upgraded HFC network
  • If in an areas where NBN fibre to the premises (FTTP) has been deployed or is in advanced stages of being built - these areas will likely remain part of the FTTP rollout
  • If in areas earmarked for NBN fixed wireless or satellite networks - these areas will remain part of the fixed wireless and satellite rollout plan
  • If in other areas - these areas are likely to receive fibre to the node deployment (FTTN) and, in the case of multi-dwelling units such as apartment blocks, fibre to the basement (FTTB).

“Over the past year, we have carried out successful trials of a range of new technologies, revised our build processes and are renegotiating our partner agreements. As a result of this work, we are able to provide forecasts that reflect the next phase of our network build,” NBN Co CEO Bill Morrow said.

“It is these forecasts that will enable our customers, the telephone and internet service providers, to be able to start planning the delivery of services over the NBN to these communities.”

Check the NBN rollout map to find out where the build has already started, areas where service is available, and those scheduled for build preparation.
