The Department of Education, Training and Employment has created a range of free apps for the community.

QSchools appInteract with your favourite Queensland state schools through the QSchools app and receive up-to-the-minute information from and about them. The full app features are designed to integrate with the department’s preferred school website platform, to allow users to see when news, events and newsletters are posted to their selected school website. Users can also see other useful information provided by the school, such as tuckshop menus, uniform shop information, class times and the school’s and the department’s social media feeds. The school community can also receive emergency announcements such as natural disasters and school closures through the app.

Queensland schools appAccess information about Queensland state schools, independent and Catholic schools. Locate your nearest school and their contact details, website addresses and other related information. Filter results based on your selection and save your favourite locations.

Out and About appGive your child a flying start in literacy by helping them practise their sight words when they are out and about. This app is aimed at Prep to Grade 2 students to help them master the first 100 sight words.

Take a StandRead up on tips and advice about bullying.

The Allen Adventure iPad appThis story is about Allen, a young visitor from another planet, who is new to school and learning how to get on with his Earthling classmates. It is suitable for children from 3 to 8 years of age. The Allen Adventure explores social and emotional skills that children need to make friends, to get on with others and to deal with unpleasant or difficult behaviour from other children.

3D Online Education Initiative

The 3D Online Education initiative aims to demonstrate innovative uses of high-speed broadband and digital technologies to increase engagement amongst school students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

The project will develop and deploy an integrated education platform that combines 3D simulations of real-world environments with immersive high-definition panoramic video streaming to deliver an engaging and stimulating learning experience into the classroom and home, enhancing education through the use of technology. The learning resources are expected to be delivered to students in at least 550 schools during 2014/15.

The 3D Online Education initiative will be delivered by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in association with commercial and education partners. Read more about 3D online learning for the future.
